Welcome Home, Buttercup!
On July 4th, 2021, we were contacted about four calves who were left behind at a dairy farm that was closing down. We worked alongside a few other sanctuaries to rescue the remaining calves, as the rest of the herd, including their mothers, had been sold. UNH provided a home to one of the four calves, now known as Buttercup! Buttercup came home riddled with infections, parasites, and a fever, and was hospitalized twice in one month. Dairy farms are breeding grounds for illnesses that are often fatal to calves, and Buttercup was, unfortunately, paying the price. After about a month of hospitalizations, Buttercup finally came home and she is as healthy, happy and strong as can be!
