Hildy's story
Hildy the rooster came to us after concerned citizens found him wandering alone at night in a park in New York. They knew that if they left him alone outside, he may not make it overnight, so they caught him and reached out to us to see if we could offer him a home. We welcomed Hildy to UNH in May 2021. Shortly after his arrival, he started exhibiting behaviors that made it clear to us that he was used for cockfighting. We let him decompress for a few months while he got used to his new surroundings, and gave him all of the space that he needed to feel comfortable. Hildy loves to bask in the sun and has shown us that he prefers distance to make him feel his safest. He loves his toys in his run and makes beautiful music playing with his rainbow xylophone. Hildy is showered with love every single day so he is constantly reminded that he is safe and loved here at UNH.
